Finding My Chrysanthemum
For my capstone, I am looking to analyze linguistic representation in children’s books, and how the publishing industry is addressing linguistic representation in general. When describing why I wanted to write about this subject, I told a story to my capstone faculty members about how reading the book Chrysanthemum helped me find identity and acceptance as a kid. In fact, when it comes to my name, I’ve felt more connection with this kids’ book recently than I have in a very long time. My capstone committee told me I should attempt to write a personal introduction to my capstone to give context to my upcoming research, and that is how Finding my Chrysanthemum was born. I formally submitted this assignment for my Creative Nonfiction class but hope to include it in my final capstone submission.
